Residences at Boardwalk in Bixby to Start Construction

BIXBY — A high-end apartment community is scheduled to be completed here in the spring of 2017.

Ground was broken last week on The Residences at Boardwalk, which will offer 377 units on 25 acres at 121st Street and Memorial Drive.

The residences will take shape in three- and four-story structures, as well as 24 two-story units with garages underneath. The complex will surround a five-acre lake and recreational area with fountains, boardwalk, water activities and a 2-mile walking trail.

A second phase of the project, slated to begin in late 2017, will include 55,000 square feet of mixed-use retail, restaurants, office and free-standing retail space, with an additional 90 three- and four-story apartment units situated over the ground-floor restaurants and retail shops.

“Resort-style apartment living is a growing trend nationally, and we’re excited to bring the concept to Tulsa,” Kevin Jordan, CEO of Black Gold Group, said in a statement. Black Gold Group is the private equity firm developing Residences at Boardwalk.

“We’re starting to see development of some high-end apartments and condos in downtown, but there’s nothing at all like this in south Tulsa for young professionals and empty-nesters,” Jordan said. “Residents will be able to go from their home to eat, shop and work, all while enjoying the waterscape and view of the lake, pool and recreational and exercise areas.”

The Black Gold Group has extensive experience in this sector, Jordan said. Art Kennedy, president of the group’s multifamily division, is an architect who has worked for national developers and lenders and been involved with the construction of more than 19,000 apartments in 10 states.

Residences at Boardwalk will differentiate itself by offering amenities not found in other Tulsa area multifamily communities, Jordan said.

Standard residential features will include 8-foot entry doors and 11-foot ceilings, smart home technology and keyless entry, open floor plans, covered balconies and high-efficiency washer and dryer units.

Other amenities will include a grilling cabana with table seating, high-speed Wi-Fi, a dog run and dog washing facility, storage space for tenants and monitored security, plus a community clubhouse with media room, Internet cafe, fireplace, wine locker, concierge and valet service.

“Residents who sign up during our pre-leasing stage will be able to choose from customized design packages, including unique tile color, lighting, plumbing fixtures, paint and more,” Jordan said. “Luxury becomes more than a word when a Boardwalk resident can pick the color of their quartz countertops and the style of their cabinets.”
